Gautrain

In June 2010, the R24bn Gautrain took to the rails for the first time, offering safe, reliable and comfortable public transport.

Less than a five-minute walk from Nelson Mandela Square, shoppers will find the Sandton Gautrain Station, currently operating between OR Tambo International Airport, Pretoria, Centurion, Park Station, Rosebank and Sandton.

Both tourists and locals are able to travel from any of these destinations quickly and comfortably. From the airport to Sandton takes a total of 12 minutes. The Gautrain now boasts the first rapid rail transport system in Africa.

Train Services

The Gautrain system operates with two train services:

  1. Airport Service
Links Sandton to the O.R. Tambo International Airport at a cost of R100 per single trip. All airport trains go via the Sandton station.
  2. The Commuter Service
Links all the stations with the exception of the airport at various different costs.

To and from the Gautrain

The Gautrain system also accommodates easy transfers between the Gautrain and other forms of transport, such as the new Bus Rapid Transport services, taxis and Metrorail trains, which will bring the ease of using door-to-door public transport to the Gauteng community.

Fares

There are various travel options available to Gautrain commuters. Special weekly and monthly packages are also available for regular users.
